Trains, planes and a boat…. Public transportation is it sometimes. Plenty of,idwesterns Amtrak travel to Washington State. I use to meet some at the Seattle Center every so often. I’m shocked you couldn’t train into Alaska. Nice scenic vacation 😎🙏💕

How many shops are on the islands and how do they get there? There is no mention anywhere how they get to the shops and where they are. I would like to see what living is like there. I have seen videos of people knitting.

The scenery was spectacular but I was looking forward to hearing the details you usually include in your other videos about how you planned the trip, how many hours/days each segment lasted, how you booked each segment, the cost of each segment, etc. For those who would like to plan the same vacation after seeing how beautiful it was, the video was not very helpful.

I would go absolutely broke on a cross country trip, even bringing my own food, unless you've got money to blow. Cheaper to just fly, even if you eat at an airport restaurant.

Here's the big problem with bedrooms/roomettes depending on the consist: My experience on the Southwest Chief is that they set it up with the diner and lounge in the middle with the bedroom cars on one side and coach cars on the other. This is presumably to keep the riffraff separated from the high rollers. On the Chief the bedroom cars are forward of the diner/lounge. The closer you are to the locomotive, the louder the whistles, and they blast that long-long-short-long at every podunk grade crossing all night long. Last trip I had the misfortune to get a roomette in the transition dorm--where the staff sleep--right behind the locomotive. Good news: When you ring for assistance they're there in minutes. Bad news: never got any sleep, even with earplugs.

This is a great video. I am an only with no one to travel with but I want to do Amtrak on the East Coast. What tips do you have for me?

I had a work assignment in Pontiac Illinois many years ago ... rented an apartment about 1 1/2 blocks from where the Amtrak station is now located. Got to watch the old Turboliners on that Chicago-St. Louis line! Also, the beef stew is on board the long-distance trains for just these situations. We were on the Southwest Chief going from LA to Galesburg in late August 2022 when the lead locomotive failed. We lost more than six hours before getting a borrowed BNSF loco, then struggled because it threw off the schedule for crew changes. Many folks bailed out in Albuquerque, so the diner was still well stocked for the next day. We finally arrived in Galesburg 17 hours late at 5 am, but didn't have to eat the beef stew!

I always book Amtrak on their website and have had zero problems! When they were late it always is never more than an an hour..in my experience. Understand they have to give the right of way to freight trains. I look at Amtrak this way.." ït ain't greyhound"!!!! Much more clean, comfortable and reliable than greyhound!

I thought that CN will finish their track work by September 8 but keep checking back with Amtrak.

100% agree on avoiding the family room on Amtrak. Somehow depressing, not comfortable for two adults and two elementary- to middle-school-age children, no good views possible much of the time and at end of car. Felt like a "no man's land."

Hi, yours are such pleasant videos. I'd like to know about the price a bit. I just bought 2 roomettes for Seattle-Santa Barbara, which includes overnight. Total was $1700. We're not going all the way to LA. Do you think this is normal cost? Also, I thought there was a sink in roomettes? Maybe that's another train. Thanks!

I don't know what this channel is, but this is one of the worst filmed and edited videos on UA-cam.

I’d like to know what type of seat I would need to request, business, coach or whatever, to be able to sit on the lower area rather than climbing those steps with luggage above the births when I do coach. I am 80 and pull my luggage up there is a killer and I do not like to leave it down in that luggage area by the doors. I’m assuming if I do business I will be on the first main floor I call it, where we enter the train. you Suggestions please from anybody. It’s between Pittsburgh and Cleveland that I have to climb up all those skinny stairs to the top level and I want to avoid that the next time I go. I’m almost tempted to get a room at for that short trip so I don’t have to climb the stairs.

Amtrak's app and website are easy to use and navigate because there are a very limited number of routes compared to Europe or Japan. There are less than a dozen long haul trains and maybe a couple dozen local short haul services. The European and Japanese train networks have hundreds of routes and stations.

Omg. I could not agree more about Chicago to Denver. I am originally from the Chicagoland (and am again now) area but have done the trek on with my vehicle (moving back and forth from SoCal). Thankfully my Aunt lives in Aurora, CO and I always stop and see her a few days and rest up at her place before the next leg to Vegas. I drive straight through for 15 1/2 hours to or from Chicago. There is nothing to see and easy to concentrate. The drive between Denver to LA is beautiful and scenic, making it more difficult to just peek out every so often. I will not do any portion of that leg at night. The weather is unpredictable-too much potential for hitting an animal-you just don’t want to be “off your game”, as it were. But the Rockies, southern Utah, being able to pop into Vegas for a night to get rest, have an amazing dinner and people watch, makes it worth the stop.

An idea for a video, unless I missed seeing that you have already covered the topic, is about views from trains. What I mean is, what direction has the best views for a given train…West to east travel? North to south? Also, which side of the train has the best views. For example, the Lakeshore Ltd., I assume that the right side would be best. If there is a choice, almost equal, which one has more nature vs cityscapes.

Take the tour for the sunset. They take you out to Hermit's Rest or another of the far west overlooks, and there will be many other people out there who took the shuttle bus or hiked there. However when it is over you get to hop back on the bus and get back down to the village within 30 minutes. The others are fighting for spots on the shuttle buses or walking back and that can take hours.

What length extension cord will reach to go down the wall, under the seat and back up?

If you are on a cross country route, can you change your seat on the app, say midway?

Hello guys. Nice trip. I have a question. Have yall ever been on Amtrak's Pennsylvanian? If not, and may one day do so, Allie for your sake, I suggest ride it between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. I say that because between New York and Philadelphia passengers ride backwards.
